Can Can is a dance originating from France, in which a pleated skirt is lifted and the feet are kicked high to fast-tempo music.
This dance, also called chahut, was a popular dance, and from around 1845 it appeared as a show on stage and became a Parisian specialty.
From 1928 it became known as the 'French Cancan'.
Can-can is a fast-tempo dance performed by raising the collar of a pleated peacock-like skirt and kicking the legs high in black stockings.
The music is exciting, but the colorful skirts and leg kicks of the dancers provide a fun spectacle.
The longer the legs and the better the flexibility, the better the posture. If you look closely, there are many main movements of the dance, but in our eyes, we only remember the scene of lifting the skirt while doing a high kick on the legs.
From a distance, it looks like a colorful flower blooming.
The aristocrats would have hated Offenbach's funny adaptation of their backstory, but they really liked it because of the colorful and exciting music.
Cancan is an opera song for adults in terms of content, but simply listening to the melody is really exciting and fun.
This work made Offenbach, who had poor box office performance, a great success and made him laugh.
Offenbach was a man of great ingenuity and creativity, and a great sense of humor and fun. He was the kind of talent that this era wants.
