We are renovating and extending a 1970 bungalow and want it to be as energy efficient as we can. We have pushed for higher levels of insulation and wanted to exceed what is requested by part L building regulations. Our installation was initially installed by our general builder but we were not very happy with the quality. In this video we share our experience and investigations into the “Performance Gap”, the difference between the designed U-value for a construction and that actually delivered. We discovered this could be as bad as a 50% reduction. From our calculations we found ours could easily have been 20-30% down so we decided to remove all of the insulation and reinstall it using Gapotape to try and ensure we got the U-values we expected (around 1.4).
