The Narita Gion Festival is a major event in Narita that heralds the arrival of summer in Narita, attracting approximately 450,000 spectators every year.
Ten floats and carved floats and one mikoshi (portable shrine) decorated with magnificent carvings and decorations are paraded around Naritasan Omotesando and the surrounding area for three days.
The Narita Gion Festival is a summer festival with a history of about 300 years that brings together the Naritasan Gion-kai, which prays to the Dainichi Nyorai (Mahavairocana), the original Buddha of the principal image of Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, enshrined in Okunoin, for bountiful harvests, prosperity for all, and the fulfillment of wishes, and the towns around Naritasan.
The Narita Gion Festival will be held over the three days of the Friday, Saturday and Sunday closest to July 7th, 8th and 9th during the Naritasan Gion Festival, and the town of Narita will be filled with a festive mood.
In 2024, the parade of mikoshi, floats and yatai will take place from the afternoon of Friday, July 5th to Sunday, July 7th.
Gorgeous floats and yatai will parade along the approach to Naritasan accompanied by lively music and spirited calls.
This year, Saiwai-cho is the on-duty town, and Hanazaki-cho will provide security.
At night, the floats will be lit up. You can enjoy the mysterious appearance of the floats and yatai, which is different from the daytime.
