Hi ladies,
In no way am I against wigs as a protective style. I simply don’t advocate for it when it’s being abused. I am a natural hair braider, that is the form of protective styling I use. I firmly believe wigs can help with less handling of your hair everyday but some women do nothing at all with their real hair and as a result, they are finding more damage than protection. The key to everything is BALANCE! But more importantly let’s educate ourselves on our hair and change the negative mindset around it.

To cover any bald spot on a client is to grab smaller parting of hair in an irregular pattern. When doing box braids on damaged hair, it’s best to use less hair on the thinner edges so that it’s not weighing too heavily. Or just opt for laying down her edges if you feel the damage maybe worse. Again it’s the client’s call on whether or not she wants her edges braided or used as baby hair. My client wanted her baldness completely covered so that’s why I braided her thinner areas with no unnecessary tension. If you’ve used a better technique let me know down in the comment section.
