Friday the 10th of May 2024 was the last day Great Victoria Street Station was operational and open to the public.

The site was previously occupied by the original Great Victoria Street Station from 1839 - 1976 which was subsequently replaced by Belfast Central Station, now renamed Lanyon Place.

In 1995 the current Great Victoria Street Station opened, it was much smaller than the original station, only featuring 4 platforms, and certainly not as aesthetically pleasing as the original station.

Now the current Great Victoria Street Station will be demolished and replaced by the new Belfast Grand Central Station, it will be a ultra modern station featuring 8 platforms, which makes it the second biggest station on the Island of Ireland after Dublin's Heuston Station and is due to open in Autumn 2024.

Due to the historical significance of the day NIR send around 111 class locomotive number 8112 to Great Victoria Street Station for one last time, 8112 had the honor of being the last ever locomotive to visit GVS.

And so GVS is now confined to the history books, I look forward to seeing the new station when completed.
