Scientists have found evidence that Neanderthals sometimes ate each other, changing how we think about these ancient humans. Researchers have found proof of this in many places across Europe.
One of the biggest finds was in El Sidrón cave in Spain, where they found bones from at least eight Neanderthals from about 43,000 years ago. These bones had cuts and breaks that showed they were butchered to get the marrow inside, suggesting that eating other Neanderthals wasn't rare, especially when food was hard to find.
Other important sites include the Goyet Caves in Belgium and Krapina Cave in Croatia. In Goyet, they found bones from both adults and kids that were cut up for meat and marrow. At Krapina, there were strange marks on Neanderthal skulls, which some scientists think might be from rituals, not just for food. This has started debates about whether Neanderthals ate each other only to survive or if it had a deeper meaning.
