Born on January 8, 1967, R. Kelly, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. Despite his impact on reshaping R&B and hip hop, he became notorious as a convicted sex offender. Renowned as the "King of R&B," "King of Pop-Soul," and the "Pied Piper of R&B," Kelly's legacy is tarnished by convictions for sex trafficking, child pornography, and exploiting a minor.

Kelly's musical career spanned 18 studio albums, yielding hits like "I Believe I Can Fly," "Ignition (Remix)," and "Trapped in the Closet." His success includes three Grammy Awards for "I Believe I Can Fly" and accolades from various award platforms. He achieved immense commercial triumph, selling over 75 million albums and singles globally. Despite his success, investigations revealed he exploited his fame to engage in sexual activities with underage fans, leading to legal action and multiple charges. The 2019 documentary "Surviving R. Kelly" exposed his alleged misconduct, leading to his contract termination and subsequent arrests on new charges. In 2021 and 2022, he was convicted on various counts, ultimately receiving a 31-year prison sentence. Presently incarcerated, he is set for release on December 21, 2045.
