Turbine Heat Rate Calculation for Thermal Power Plant
Steam Turbine Heat Rate is the ratio of total heat energy utilized into the steam turbine divided by electricity generation through the steam turbine. Turbine heat rate tells the cyclic efficiency of a steam turbine as well as the thermal efficiency of the power plant. If the heat rate is less, then the cyclic efficiency of Rankin cycle is more and thermal efficiency is also higher of the thermal power plant. Different data is measured in thermal power plant like Flow, pressure and temperature of main steam, cold reheat steam, hot reheat steam and feed water to calculate turbine heat rate. Cold Reheat Steam flow needs to be calculated from heat balance diagram. The turbine heat rate calculation is described Step by step in the video:
• Concept of Turbine Heat Rate
• Formation of Heat Rate formula
• Enthalpy calculation of super heated steam (pressure and temperature)
• Enthalpy calculation for Feed water (only consider temperature – why?)
• CRH Flow calculated by Heat Balance method (why no flow meter in CRH line?)
• Turbine Heat Rate calculation with Operating data (imaginary but likely to be actual)
