In this video, I'll cover 3 PROS and 3 CONS about living in St. Albert to give you an idea of what to expect. Here's a quick summary of the key points:

CONS:
1. You'll need a car - Public transit is not super efficient. St. Albert's main shopping/grocery/businesses are along the main road (St. Albert Trail) and not very close to many neighbourhoods. It gets VERY cold in the winter and you won't want to wait at bus stops in -40 degrees Celsius. And most events/entertainment are in Edmonton.

2. Property taxes are high - St. Alberts property tax rate as of 2023 is approx. 1.1% of tax assessed value. Compared to Edmonton (0.94%) and Spruce Grove (0.89%) they are considered high for the area. You do get a well-maintained city with some great services.

3. Home Prices are higher too - The benchmark price for Single Family homes in St. Albert is about 13% higher than in Edmonton. So your money won't get you as big of a home as surrounding areas. You will, however, be in a safe neighbourhood no matter where you go in St. Albert.

PROS:
1. SAFETY - St. Albert has been recognized as one of the safest cities in Alberta. There is virtually no homeless population and the community keeps a close watch on suspicious activity. As mentioned before, there are no bad neighbourhoods in St. Albert. No "Ghetto" as some would say.

2. Fantastic Schools - Many families move to St. Albert specifically to enroll their kids in St. Albert schools. And if you don't live within St. Albert it's virtually impossible for your kids to attend school within the city. St. Albert students consistently rank above provincial averages in AP exams.

3. Things to do year-round - St. Albert hosts the largest outdoor farmers market in the country from June to October. Over 275 vendors selling everything from fresh fruits and vegetables, arts, crafts, beef jerky, spices and more. There are parks, trails, playgrounds, and you can even kayak down the Sturgeon River. In the winter you'll find outdoor hockey rinks (ODRs) in almost every neighbourhood as well as city-maintained skating rinks and trails. There are many organized sport opportunities for people of all ages. And the rocky mountains, specifically Jasper National Park is only a 3.5 hour drive away.
