The Milky Way has many different names all around the world.

In Chinese it’s known as 'the silver river', in Afrikaans, 'the heavenly street', and in Mongolian it's 'the heavenly seam'.

For astrophysicist Naomi McClure-Griffiths, this galaxy is so familiar to her it's like a kind of astral neighbourhood.

Naomi's first big project when she began working in astrophysics and radio astronomy was to begin creating an atlas of the Milky Way.

Amidst the dust, clouds of gas, and stars, she came across something no one had identified before: an entirely new spiral arm of our galaxy.
