This presentation will provide an overview of current legislative and system efforts to reduce the over-reliance on psychotropic medications on foster youth. The multiple challenges presented by this movement away from medications as a means of behavioral control, while addressing the fears of an upsurge in harmful incidents will be explored. The hope for developing sufficient capacity for delivering trauma-informed care as 1st line treatment option will be discussed.
