Revisiting a work from a past lifetime, I wanted to pay tribute to a band I led in the early 70's, The Three Rivers Blues Band. The band in this video consisted of eight musicians from the Pittsburgh region.
Pat Leone - lead vocal + guitar, Dave Freeland - drums + vocals, Larry Manzi - vocals + percussion, Frank Santolla - bass, Chuck Sperry - trumpet, George Magura - alto sax + piano, Shannon Lynaugh - tenor sax, Dave Plattner - trombone. The group had recorded this original song for Buddah Records, NYC. and it was released nationally. Song writers were: Pat Leone, Dave Freeland + George Magura. This lineup
of the band toured extensively playing many colleges and outdoor concerts and festivals. Shared the stage with Chicago, The Almond Brothers Band, Johnny Winter, and many other great rock groups of that time. The inspiration for the song was the movie Easy Rider.
This song was released on 45 rpm vinyl with the flip side of the record being the original song, "Freedom Rider". At that time, the records were monophonic as AM radio stations were the most popular and only broadcast in mono. Stereo radio stations were just beginning and the 33 1/3 vinyl albums in stereo had just been introduced.
I hope some of the groups fans will enjoy this little tribute with music that reflected the freedom we all were striving for in our lives and in America. Woodstock would come to reflect the culmination of the freedom movement and the music that brought everyone together.
I would love to hear comments from fans if possible.
I hope you enjoy this tribute!
