The Mt. Carmel Highway was an engineering wonder built in the 1930's that connected Zion Canyon with a route that led to Bryce Canyon National Park. Before, to get from one park to another required a long round about way. With the tunnel being built, the travel time is only about 2 hours apart.

The Zion Canyon Overlook trailhead is just before the tunnel (when entering from the east). I would say this hike is a must do as it gives a great view of Zion Canyon. Parking at this hike is very limited where there are only a couple parking spaces in two different parking lots. There are probably no more than 10 spaces. However, most people just park on the side of the road. You still need to be very careful because there is not much room.

Also, another thing to be aware of is that the Mt. Carmel Tunnel is basically one way at a time (during certain hours) because RVs will not fit unless going right down the middle. Park rangers coordinate traffic so only on lane passes through at a time so the RVs can drive in both lanes. This creates traffic when entering the tunnel, so it is important to take this into consideration when making an itinerary. However, a way to avoid this is to just go early in the morning or late in the afternoon. I was passing through during the middle of the day.
