the day is finally here! gone are the days of horrendous weekend headways -- trains now come every 30 minutes at ALL stations (with the exception of south county stations, of course)! the EMUs are no longer limited to the slow diesel schedule, and we immediately got a taste of what these trains can bring to the table. now they are able to be pushed to the legal limit without the long dwell times at stations. many trains fell behind schedule today, but that's mainly due to the launch party being held in palo alto. this particular run got to redwood city about 6-8 minutes late, and i'm sure the long dwell time at palo alto worsened it. the travel times when not taking the event into account seem to be accurate; trains were sometimes only 3-5 minutes behind. there were some LARGE crowds today; i was shocked to see how many people rode caltrain to try the new service out! the free fares certainly attracted a ton of people. cheers to a faster, cleaner, better caltrain!
