Peter Klatzow (1945-)
"Sonata for solo marimba"
Adagio
Solemn
Vivace
Adagio

"This work was created in the belief that after a number of shorter works and movement for the marimba (including four concerti) I should devote energy to creating a substantial solo work.
My process of composition involves processes – evolving process rather than dramatic contrasts. The confrontation of first and second subject does not occur here. I like the variation form most. However, linear (melodic) and vertical (harmonic) balances are called into play in the work.
The second movement is in the nature of a chorale. The third movement is a Vivace (traditional scherzo) in asymmetrical meter (2x3 plus 2= 8/8). The last movement evolves out of a simple 4 mote idea, which gradually expands and grows through various processes into a large movement. The work was completed on 17th July, 2016." - Peter Klatzow
