AKB48 celebrated their first 10-year anniversary in 2016 with the commemorative release of the 43rd single where many reputed graduated members returned to join the festive event and it represents a new chapter of the group. Unlike the usual practises of wearing modern clothes, AKB members, in this song, wore traditional costumes from the Edo period. With the pentatonic (five notes) scales in the beginning of the piece, it added an exotic feeling to the music.
It was later adopted by AKB’s sister groups overseas including Indonesia, Thai and Philippines in corresponding languages and remarkably is that the members have dressed up the traditional or even royal (Thai) costumes of their countries and this is a perfect example of their cultural localisation.
