Athens Metro is one of the most ancient subway networks in the world, with the first line opening in 1869. The expansion of the network went quite slowly until 2000. From 2000 to the present day, Athens Metro started expanding at a much faster pace, with the opening of lines 2 and 3. And at the moment, line 4 is under construction.
