Here's an in-depth look at 350+ cars at the 2024 Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration show, held at the NEC in Birmingham. As with previous visits to classic car shows at the NEC I spent a brisk day photographing as much as I could (over 730 photos), then whittled them down to 350 edited images for the purposes of this upload, to feature as broad a range of classic cars as possible - on display, and in the classic car auctions sale hall.
The NEC restoration show fills halls 3a, 4 and 5, so is smaller than the vast NEC classic car show held in November (5 halls), but plenty big enough for me. I also prefer the emphasis of the restoration show, which in addition to showing beautifully restored classic cars, also features plenty of cars in "barn find" un-restored condition or in mid-restoration with work still to complete.
On many of the club stands there were demonstrations of restoration techniques, bodywork, trim and mechanical, which gives this event a unique feel to it.
The "barn finds" display area was packed as ever with some amazing finds, some restorable, others perhaps beyond any feasible restoration. The mossy Lanchester 14 was a spectacular sight for example, as was a poor old Morris Minor covered in avian guano, an astonishingly odd 1950 Cadillac (you need to see this one), a rare Chrysler 180 saloon and a mildly tempting 1952 Austin Princess, to name just a few.
350 photos are in this upload, some feature more than one car so around 400 cars in all get a mention. Apologies if you were displaying at the 2024 Restoration Show but didn't make it into this upload. Maybe next year!
