In a unique cooperation among the world’s leading environmental science awards, scientists who are sustainability trailblazers gather for a virtual event to talk about how to tackle the planetary crises. They bring forward solutions to climate change, protecting biodiversity, and preventing pollution. Participating scientists are Gretchen Daily, Stanford University, Veerabhadran Ramanathan, University of California, Paul Anastas, Yale University, Partha Dasgupta, Cambridge University, Susan Solomon, MIT, Rashid Sumaila, University of British Columbia and explorer James Balog, Earth Vision Institute.

The one-hour session is a cooperation between The Volvo Environment Prize, the Blue Planet Prize, the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, and the Heinz Awards. Participating are scientists who have made pioneering efforts in path-breaking environmental sciences and have received one or more of the top awards.

The event was organized in honor of Stockholm+50, a crucial meeting to celebrate 50 years of global environmental action, June 2-3, 2022. The Stockholm +50 acts as a springboard to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement on climate change, the Global Biodiversity Framework, and other essential sustainability goals.
To further underline the need for action, the world's leading environmental science award organizations, based in Japan, Sweden, and the US, decided to reach out with a strong message on sustainability solutions from some of their mutual laureates.
The Guided by Science event is moderated by Professor Carl Folke, Beijer Institute, and Professor Thomas Elmqvist, Stockholm Resilience Center.
