QUANTITATIVE VS QUALITATIVE DATA // Data can generally be divided into two types - quantitative data and qualitative data. A lot of people find these two words confusing so let’s look at the differences.
The easiest way to remember the difference between quantitative vs qualitative data is to think about the root of the word.
Quantitative data is about quantity or number. Quantitative data is used when you are trying to quantify a problem, or address the "what" or "how many" aspects of a question. It can be discrete data or continuous data.
Qualitative data is about a quality or characteristic. Qualitative data describes or characterizes the thing you’re gathering data about. It uses words, not numbers.
