Presenter: Dr. Alastair Robinson, Manager Biodiversity Services, Royal Botanic Gardens, Victoria.
Alastair Robinson is Manager Biodiversity Services at Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. He oversees the organisation's plant collecting and seed banking work, delivery of Australia’s most respected online flora (vicflora.rbg.vic.gov.au), and manages the Botanical Library and Archives. A botanist and illustrator, his expertise lies in the floras of Malesia, Papua and Oceania, with published works primarily addressing the taxonomy and conservation of carnivorous plants and terrestrial orchids.

Alastair will present "Australia's Carnivorous Flora."
Few people realise that Australia is home to more species of carnivorous plants than anywhere else on Earth, let alone their incredible diversity and form. In this seminar, Alastair will provide some background to the history of carnivory in plants—both in terms of how it was first documented, and why it has arisen and proliferated in Australia—along with an overview of the major carnivorous plant genera found across the continent
