At the end of the 19th century, black gold is about to transform the town of Fort River into a new El Dorado.
As the first rich businessman to arrive on the scene, Mr Trevis, who is as venal as he is unscrupulous, intends to become the only farmer in the area. To achieve his goal, he entrusts John, his "strong arm", with convincing the farmers to give up their land, which contains huge deposits under the ground.
Mike, who was a simple farmer when his wife was killed, has since become a bounty hunter. His pursuit leads him to join John's band of mercenary. This gang is nicknamed "the black gold bastards".
Jack Mc Candle, the rightful heir to his father's farm, the first immigrant of the family to set foot on American soil, remains attached to his land. So he refuses the repeated offers made to him by Mr Trevis.
But Mr Trevis, blinded by his lust for wealth, will do anything to get what he wants.

With a budget of €5,000 for the film (which includes meals, accommodation, set construction, costumes, etc.) and €4,500 for the composition and recording of an original score orchestrated by Damien Deshayes, Black Gold Bastards is a basic amateur film made by friends, which grew in stature when filming began (in 2008). As the script was not written according to the rules of the art (it was basically a buddy film), it was difficult to make up for the mistakes made in the writing, and the effect is felt.
