For more than 1500 years, the Gwalior Fort has been one of the most important forts of North India. Located on a hill known as 'Gopagiri' and named after a RIshi named 'Gwalipa', the Gwalior Fort lay on a strategic location on a trade route connecting North and South India. As a result, every invader who wished to rule North India, from the Hunas , Mahmud of Ghazni, Mahmud Ghori, Alauddin Khilji, Babur, right till the British East India company attempted to capture this fort.
