Quick comparison of the new Standable 2.0 up against the Quest 3's IOBT through Virtual Desktop.

Standable received an update on May 22nd, with promises of improvements, especially in regards to sitting/laying and general quality of life. Standable can be used with any headset, and can even be used in conjunction with trackers as a fallback for when they are occluded.

The Quest 3's IOBT (Inside Out Body Tracking) is achieved by using the cameras for upper body tracking, while the legs are estimated. Using Virtual Desktop, one can emulate trackers to be used by any game that supports them, like VRChat. Future headsets from Meta will also support IOBT. The Quest 2 supports a version of IOBT without any upper body tracking.

My initial impressions with Standable 2.0 are honestly mixed, though perhaps I've been spoiled by Meta. You can see for yourself the difference, and it's even more noticeable in VR. Both the fluidity and accuracy of Meta's system is genuinely impressive in many cases. That being said, laying down is a far superior experience with Standable than with the Quest 3's IOBT, with the latter barely even trying. And it's not hard to imagine those with certain trackers benefiting from such if they wish to use a blanket, obscuring visibility and thus falling back to Standable. I hope to see further improvements made to both these methods in future.
