In this design, we focused on WATER CONSERVATION and SUSTAINABLE backyard ideas for a typical backyard.

There are two water features here, one a POND and the other a PONDLESS WATERFALL. These are affordable water features that can be installed in a small to medium space, or both in a larger area.

We created the illusion that this was a single water feature, going under a bridge, but in fact they are two separate water features. We build them as two, due to the RAINWATER CAPTURING SYSTEM built within the pondless waterfall. This is also called a rainwater harvesting system.

What makes this special is that we tied the gutter downspouts into the drain that leads into the pondless, but skips over the pond. You do not want runoff water in your koi pond, due to potentially changing the dynamic of the ecosystem, but for a pondless - it works just fine to capture and reuse your rainwater!

The rainwater is stored in a basin under the pondless waterfall and is used to conserve water. The overflow of pond from rain also leads into the pondless waterfall basin and is stored there.

These were built for the The 2020 Pasadena Showcase House of Design event was unfortunately canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This event is normally the highlight of our season, we get to show off our design and installation skills to the masses and put our whole heart behind a blank slate and create art. We didn’t want our work to go unnoticed or forgotten, so we present to you our 2020 Showcase Design Space “The Livingroom Sun Garden”. Enjoy!
