Adam Cooney was the reigning brownlow medallist from 2008 and presented the medal to Gary included a cheeky kiss on Gary's forehead.
Geelong went on to win the 2009 Premiership the following Saturday against St. Kilda. Their second of three premierships during this era (2007, 2009, 2011).

Sandy Roberts hosted the Brownlow medal count in 2009. Normally the event was hosted on Channel Seven by Bruce McAvaney but due to the death of his father, Roy McAvaney, he was unable to attend.

Lauren Phillips was Gary's partner at the time and is pictured many times throughout the medal count. Lauren is well known as a presenter on Channel 9 for various programs.

Mike Fitzpatrick was chairman of the AFL commission from 2007 until 2017 and is seen in this video presenting the toast. Andrew Demetriou was then CEO of the AFL and read out the medal count.
