RZA has earned respect. As a rapper, producer, actor, screenwriter, author, director, as leader/producer of the Wu-Tang Clan, he has been a Hip Hop Renaissance Man. RZA sat with Urban Music Association of Canada President Will Strickland, having a casually intense conversation during Canadian Music Week 2008.

Those assembled listened to an incisive, expansive, give-and-take discussion. RZA and Will weaved a story about the formative years of Hip Hop, the origins of the Wu-Tang name, the history of RZA’s storied career. Candid and straightforward, RZA talked about even the bad choices he’d made in his life. Music was his way out of the ghetto, as he himself has said. “I just look for different ways to express my artistic nature.”

RZA has been acclaimed numerous times as one of the greatest Hip Hop Producers of all time. His groundbreaking and paradigm-shifting work with the Wu-Tang Clan is just the beginning; he’s been acclaimed for his film scores and his own extensive production work, including directing the film The Man With the Iron Fists. He continues to prove his belief in community by working with a wide range of artists.
