Having just won the battle against the mighty giant King Prabu Baka, Bandung Bondowoso marched into the Prambanan palace. He was very surprised to find Prabu Baka's beautiful daughter, Roro Jonggrang, there. Bandung Bondowoso asked for her hand in marriage. Roro Jonggrang didn't actually want to marry her father's killer, so she gave him a very difficult task: Build a thousand candis (temples) overnight. She would marry him if he succeeded. As the midnight approached, Bandung Bondowoso was close to completing the task with the help of djinns that he commanded. Roro Jonggrang quickly thought of a way to thwart his progress.
