One for the Czech fans. Please note that this interview with Tom ahead of the Metronome gig on June 23rd 2023 appeared on the national news station in Prague and as such, it was dubbed into the language of the host country. However, a fan from that region who supplied the clip has very kindly translated everything that was said into English and it's reproduced below. Thanks again, Elis.

Reporter: Imagine you are getting into rehersal room or music store and there is a guitar and a synth. Which instrument you will choose?

Tom: I would get a guitar. I am not a type of person who would be trying instruments in the store unless no one else would be around. But guitar is my instrument really.

Reporter: You are doing quite big changes throughout the band evolution that’s why I’m asking. From guitar music to synth music is that a goal?

Tom: There is a decision process of course. We mainly need to try something new we haven’t tried yet. We are manipulaiting within certain area and whatever we are doing makes sense to us. It’s true that some records are more guitar based and other more electronic. For me it’s like same thing but sometimes it’s like oh.. little bit different like that. I get that.

Tom: I like combining some dance club music together with our sound. I like discovering the energy which the song gets from this. I find it exciting. Also we have a new band member, Ben is very peculiar kind of artist who makes very noisy electronic music. So having Ben as a new member really influenced our sound.

Reporter: Are you people who like to dance?

Tom: To dance? Some more than other.

Reporter: I am asking because the new album is really dance like.

Tom: Yeah yeah, from time to time we are going with Russell who plays bass guitar to dance clubs listen to some DJs. But I don’t really like to dance. I may dance a bit on the stage but once I am on the wedding for example I am more on the bar type of guy.

Reporter: What’s your creative force? What makes you keep going?

Tom: That feeling when you’re working on something together. The energy which arises in the rehersal room where the new ideas are coming very fast is almost addictive. Amazing feeling which won’t get old. We have found different ways how to achieve that – different people, various instruments, as you’ve mentioned. But the result is the same. I remember as we have written song Bullets at the university and the excitement when we played it live. We have felt the same excitement when Papillon was released and the same with Kiss from the new album. It’s just addictive and that’s exactly why we are doing what we are doing. When we feel kind of like, yes…

Reporter: Is there any genre you would like to try in the future?

Tom: I think we could record more of an acoustic album one day. I think we will get there but don’t expect it any time soon. We could also try more orchestral sound.

Reporter: Is it still neccessary to talk about music genres?

Tom: Neccessary? I understand why it is a thing to talk about while discussing music or bands but don’t consider it important. For me personally the song itself is more important than the genre, its mood and its vibe. Now more than ever, it (labeling) is less important.

Reporter: So when you are deciding which music you will be listening to in the car…

Tom: It depends on my kids, what they want to listen to. Now it is often Foo Fighters. Yeah, good choice, good vibe yeah.

Reporter: I can not mention the video for the Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors. What comes to your mind with this?

Tom: Yeah, we shot it here in Prague. Long time ago. Good old times. Video was shot by Arni&Kinski from Iceland. We were very lucky we‘ve met them. The shooting was amazing. And I remember watching their work on the river and the scene with the girl that runs over the water towards the end. So they obviously redo this walkway just under the surface. Really simple idea. But even still watching to film that beautiful cinematography was just.. ahhh, you know.

It was 2007, 2006 maybe...yeah, we were just boys.

Reporter: Any other memorable times from Prague?

Tom: The venue which I don’t remember the name. With the rounded stage.

Reporter: You mean Lucerna Music Bar.

Tom: Yes, that one. We played there like 3 times. Very intense, mainly because of the shape of the stage and having audience on both sides. I remember a photo where I am sitting behind the piano and it looks like I am levitating. And we are back to levitation and water. That’s a good place.
