WinterProof Your House Plants!

Follow these steps, and your green friends will be ready to burst into new spring growth in no time!๐Ÿ’ฆ First, make sure to adjust your watering schedule. During colder months, plants need less water, so be careful not to overwater.

๐Ÿงฝ Clean all dust and dirt over your leaves. Reduced sunlight means less energy for your plants, so make sure they can easily work with the green leaves they DO have!

๐Ÿ› While youre there, check for pests! Regularly inspect your plants, especially during the colder months.ย Bugs love warm environments just as much as we do!

๐Ÿฅต Keep an eye on the temperature. Most houseplants prefer a consistent temperature, so avoid placing them near drafts or heating vents.

๐Ÿ’ก Finally, provide adequate light. With shorter days, consider using grow lights to ensure your plants get enough light. My tip is to look for around 5000 K on the LED light. This should also then come with very good lumen (lm) for your plants.

By following doing these things NOW, your plants will stay healthy and strong, ready to flourish when spring arrives. Happy planting! ๐ŸŒฟโœจ

Adjust Light

KELVIN - Kelvins, commonly abbreviated as K, are units of measurement that measure the colour temperature of a light. Although the term may be confusing, colour temperature has little to do with the actual temperature of a bulb. Instead, it refers to the colour of the light produced by the bulb. Natural sunlight is in the range of 2,700 to 7,000 Kelvin. So, as a general rule of thumb, if you're looking to promote vegetative growth, pick lights ranging between 5,000 and 7,000 Kelvin. To promote fruiting and flowering, opt for lights in the 3,500 to 4,500 Kelvin range.

LUMEN - A Lumen (lm) is a unit of measurement that measures how bright a bulb is. Unlike Kelvins, which only tell you how yellow or blue a bulb appears to be, Lumens give the actual light output of a bulb. The amount of lumens per square foot you'll need in order to effectively provide light for indoor plants are around 400 - 1000 lm. Choose a light bulb that offers this much but remember, this is a general guideline--Some plants need over 2000 lm! Fluorescent tubes are generally considered the best plant grow lights.
