Noto is a city located in the south-eastern part of Sicily, Italy. It is famous for its well-preserved Baroque architecture, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. Some of its best-known monuments include the Noto Cathedral, the Church of San Domenico and the Palazzo Ducezio. The city is also renowned for its art, culture and traditional Sicilian cuisine.

On Easter morning. Dating back to at least 1645, it represents the meeting between the Madonna and the Risen Christ, characteristic and emotional in this Modican version due to the fact that the simulacrum of Mary moves its arms, imparts blessings and bends to kiss the chest of the resurrected son. At noon sharp, amid cheering crowds, as soon as the Madonna "sees" the Risen Jesus in the distance, the black cloak covering her is dropped, thus leaving her blue dress exposed; in the meantime there is a launch of white doves, previously placed in the base of the simulacrum.
