Japan Walk Tour

Tama Zoological Park is the largest zoo in Tokyo with 52.3 hectares (about 4 times of Ueno Zoological Gardens in Ueno Park)of its land and more than 300 species of birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles are kept. This zoo is famous the first koala exhibit in Japan and the lion bus(extra fee applied)in the world. This zoo is located on the hills as you can see in the video, so I suggest you to come in comfortable clothing.
This zoo was open in 1958 as a branch of Ueno Zoological Gardens and became one of the beloved zoos in Japan.

I walked through this zoo pretty fast to record as many animals as I could in short time, but people usually spend a half day in this park, at least 3 hours to watch all the creatures. There are shuttle buses and many resting places including restrooms in this zoo, so you don’t have to worry about getting tired here.

The access to this zoo is quite simple. You can take a train from Keio Shinjuku Station to Takahatafudo Station(about 35 minutes), then take another train to Tama-Dobutsukoen Station(every 15-20 minutes, about 3-4 minutes ride). You can also take Tama Toshi Monorail from Takahatafudo Station to Tama-Dobutsukoen Station(every 6-10 minutes, 4 minutes ride).
