The naked mole rats, labelled "sand puppies" and an "evolutionary joke", are small rodents growing no bigger than 4 inches. Perfectly adapted to its environment, the naked mole rat has been mocked for years due to its unusual appearance.
The naked mole rat, found in the East African Savannahs, is a unique mammal adapted to underground life with almost no hair, wrinkled skin and large teeth for digging. These social creatures are like that of insects scurrying underground, working in colonies with a Queen at the helm. Zoologists go underground to study this peculiar mammal more closely.
