The Little Conemaugh River is a tributary to the Conemaugh River that is roughly 30 miles long. The North Branch is 14 miles long and has a few tributaries to it. This is the main stem, from where the Little Conemaugh forms and the furthest up you can launch to run it, right where Bear Rock Run comes in near the cemetery on the hill. The Allegheny Portage Mainline Railroad system runs along side this river on the original tracks. This section of the river goes under many original bridges. This is the river of the Johnstown Flood of 1889, however this section was not the section where the water came from the dam. This section flooded different parts of Portage and Wilmore during the flood of 1977.

This section is mostly a continuous class 2 ride and it picks up gradient through Cassandra which essentially is one continuous smaller class 3 rapid through the entire village and ends with some smaller surf holes in the park.

After Cassandra at the bridge, there is another smaller class 3 section through an older village named Oil City all the way down to where Ben's Creek enters. Once Ben's Creek comes in, there are a few more class 2 sections until the Jamestown road bridge.

From Jamestown down all the way into Portage and eventually Wilmore and South Fork, the whitewater goes away and a more recreational adventure begins. From South Fork on, however, gradient picks back up and the river becomes a class 2/3 river all the way to Johnstown, except for on hazard known as Echo Rapid (Loop Cut Falls) which is 1 mile past Mineral Point. Join paddlers Ricky, Justin and Chris on this 3ft run of Little Conemaugh North. At this level we consider it mostly harder class 2 continuous with some sections class 3. With more water, this doesn't get around a more continuous class 3+ run due to the width and nature of the river.
