With a board on wheels most think of a skateboard and hear it already rattling on the asphalt. And with a Surfskate? Also a board on wheels, but very quietly on the road, crass maneuverable and the latest craze among skaters. A board with which you can ride up and down the walls in a bowl, like on a wave in the sea. Surfskate just! The Surfskate belongs to the family of longboards. Martin Sammet has been building them in his workshop in Hösslinsülz in the Heilbronn district since 1983. When he pulls out his pencil, he first immortalizes his idea on a template. This is also the case with the Surfskate. It gets its very own shape. In the beginning there is always the shape, as the skater scene calls it. More precisely, a custom shape, so an individual tailoring. It is adapted to the rider and his wishes. The special feature of this sports equipment is, in addition to its shape and feel, also the special axles. They are extremely maneuverable and create waves on the rather dry asphalt. It's like riding a surfboard in the ocean on a breaker. Martin Sammet uses wood and high-tech materials in the board in a good 20 work steps. The heart of the board is the wooden core made of ash. Around the natural material he layers and glues metal alloys and plastics. Materials that are also used in the aerospace industry. Why does he build this way? What does it have to do with the driver and his safety, and what other trade secrets does he reveal?
