About Sawara's Grand Festival
The "Sawara no Oosai" Summer Festival and Autumn Festival (UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage / Designated by the national government as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property) are known as one of the three major float festivals in the Kanto region, with a tradition of about 300 years.

The sound of "Sawara-bayashi," one of Japan's three most popular music instruments, echoes through the town as it moves through the streets of Koedo, a district designated as a national preservation area for traditional buildings, grazing the eaves of houses as it goes.
The float is made of zelkova and decorated with massive Kanto carvings, and the top is adorned with a 4-meter-high doll made by a master doll maker in the Edo and Meiji periods.
During the summer festival in July, which is the Yasaka Shrine Gion Festival, ten floats are pulled around the area east of the Ono River (in the Honjuku district).
On the other hand, during the Suwa Shrine Autumn Festival in October, 14 floats are pulled around the area on the west side of the Ono River (Shinjuku area).
At the Suigo Sawara Float Hall, two floats are displayed, one for the summer festival and one for the fall festival, taking turns.
