In palmistry, the person's character or future life is evaluated by "reading" .The various "lines" ("line of the heart", "line of life", etc.) and "elevation" or (bulge) (palm) are read and suggested regarding their respective sizes, properties and interbranches. In some customs, palmists also observe the fingers, fingernails, fingerprints and lines of a person's skin texture and colour, shape, size of the palm and the flexibility of the hand.
A palmist is usually the person's 'dominant hand' (with which he/she writes or is most commonly used) (which sometimes represents the conscious mind and the other hand indicates the subconscious). In some traditions of palmistry, the other hand is considered to possess hereditary or family traits, or based on the palmist's cosmological beliefs, providing information about past life or past birth conditions.
The basic framework for "classical" palmistry (which is most widely taught and traditionally practiced) has its roots in Greek mythology. Each region of the palm and fingers is related to a goddess or deity and the characteristics of that region are indicative of the nature of this aspect of the subject. For example, the ring finger is associated with the Greek god .The characteristics of this ring finger are seen in the discussion of allied subjects of art, music, aesthetics, fame, wealth and harmony.
