The open debate at the United Nations presents a crucial opportunity for Member States to delve into the findings of the Secretary-General's annual report on children and armed conflict, spanning January to December 2023, as mandated by Security Council resolution 2427 (2018).

Chaired by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations, Joonkook Hwang, the debate will feature insightful briefings from esteemed speakers.

These include Ban Ki-moon, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Chair of The Elders, as well as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, and the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund.

Additionally, a civil society representative will contribute perspectives, enriching the dialogue with diverse insights and recommendations aimed at advancing the protection and welfare of children affected by conflict worldwide.
