We visited the Detroit Boat show and almost bought a pontoon boat. We didn't go with the intention of buying a new boat, rather, we just wanted to get some ideas of what we might like.

I'd like a 26-28 foot cabin cruiser but the show didn't have anything like that for less than $200,000. So, we took a walk down one of the many isles selling pontoon boats. But with all the manufacture's of Pontoon boats, its hard to know which one is the best deal for the money. There are so many brands, here is just a few: Bennington pontoon boats, Avalon pontoon boats,
Godfrey pontoon boats, Manitou pontoon boats, Sun Tracker pontoon boats,
Seadoo, Crest pontoon boats, Barletta pontoon boats, Harris pontoon boats, Berkshire pontoon boats, and many others.

The price of these boats is wild. The cheapest pontoon boat we saw was still $40,000 while the most expensive was almost $300,000.

Tritoon boats are even more expensive.

Pontoon/Tritoons don't typically have sleeping quarters (berth), no bathroom (head), no kitchen (galley). I am trying to figure out why pontoon boats are so expensive? There's no fiberglass, its two or three aluminum toons, welded braces, and marine-grade plywood. Aren't they relatively all the same from the decking down? I understand you are paying for what sits on the deck, such as premium leather, floor coverings, etc.

I don't know. It seems like the pontoon industry has grown like mad and everyone is selling pontoons now. I am actually considering a Tritoon purchase, if I can find the right one that best fits our needs and budget.

Thanks for watching. Thanks for listening. Share your thoughts on the price of boats today. Will they ever be affordable for the regular household?
