The 2025 Ford Transit Custom is looking to raise the benchmark for mid-size vans, with the hotly contested segment naturally headlined by the Toyota HiAce, but there's also plenty of competition from the likes of the Hyundai Staria Load, Volkswagen Transporter and Renault Trafic, among others.
Either way, the second-generation Transit Custom stands out from the crowd with its European design, but it attempts to deliver more important things than just looks with its new platform, as practicality is its strong suit, with difference wheelbase lengths offered alongside independent rear suspension and a 2500kg braked towing capacity, which is enabled by the standard 125kW/390Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Byron Mathioudakis heads to Germany to get familiar with the new Transit Custom ahead of its Australian launch later this year.
