The nature around us is filled with numerous wonders. It has taken several millenniums for it to reach to its present state and has provided inspiration not only to poets, painters and writers, but also to many medicine practitioners.it has given us ancient valuable knowledge.

The discovery of atoms was not something new for Indians for its existence was already mentioned in ancient Indian scriptures like vedas and puranas. This points out to the fact of how aware Indians were towards their surroundings.

Eventually, scientists from around the world understood that a huge amount of energy can be derived from atoms through the method of nuclear fission. This discovery also created a new chapter in human history. This was the age of nuclear energy.

Soon, India became an important nation in the field of nuclear energy production,

As the years have passed by, India has been progressing with force in a variety of industries and arenas. This quick growth has also caused an equal amount of increased in the per capita consumption of energy. This has also led to the quicker depletion of petroleum and coal resources.

Electric power is the basic requirement for any country. India produces 2,10,000 MW of electrical power making it the 5th largest producer of electricity in the world. Hydro-electric power is not a continuous source of power supply since it depends on nature. This has led to the need for a commercial feasible energy source leading to the creation of nuclear programme in India.

Thus the Department of Atomic Energy was created on 3 August 1954.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL)was created in 1987 and today NPCIL has crossed 350, safely operating nuclear reactor years.

Kaiga nuclear power plant is one of NPICL’s proud projects and has been feeding India’s energy requirements by producing electricity since 2000. This nuclear power plant is located on the banks of Kali river, flowing by a small town called Kaiga in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka.

Kaiga nuclear power plant lies 55kms off the coast of Karwar and has been designed, constructed, run and maintained by NPICL. The ozone layer in our atmosphere is being destroyed by greenhouse gases. However, nuclear energy is mostly a clean and advanced form of energy production.

The team that runs Kaiga nuclear power plant is very energetic and highly knowledgeable in their respective fields. These people keep the indigenously designed nuclear power plant running continuously and safely by implementing a variety of necessary checks in the plant’s functioning. They also keep a close eye on its smooth functioning.
