Correction: DAVID HUNTER, not Hunter Davis, or whatever i said 🙄, was the Union general who was tricked by Jubal Early and chased out of Lynchburg and the lower Shenandoah. Also, in the future, when i get J.E.B. and Jube mixed up, please understand it's because there's a J and a B in both first names. i know their roles and differences.

Also, cheers to those who caught it, but Maryland also borders Washington to the southeast. 🤦‍♂️

Lil' primer fer y'all. As i always say, context is everything, and to truly understand any particular battle or event, you must understand what events preceded it.

Please, get excited about this "greatest little battle" of Monacacy! It has all the elements, just on a smaller scale. But the aspirations were high! The goals were lofty. The commanding generals were superb. Their armies both fought well. It was political. It was tactical. And it was a very pitched battle. It is a story of both sides beating the odds. And it is, again, on both sides, an underdog story.

What's not to like? What more could you ask for?
