My best tips on how to handle being around people who do not accept or support you.

NOTE: This advice applies to a lot of different situations because it is so general. So, these apply to more than just people who are unsupportive of trans people or more than just people you interact with daily.

These tips still work for people you don't really have contact with (i.e. you're away at college, don't live near them, etc) and they still work if you're dealing with anyone who is unsupportive of you, no matter your identity. You don't have to be trans for these tips to apply!

Honestly, these work for any situation where you're not feeling supported.


- 1. Surround yourself with people who DO support you.
- 2. Educate and provide resources to try and have them understand where you're coming from.
- 3. Bring in an unbiased third party to help navigate a conversation between yourself and those who do not support you.
- 4. Remember that regardless of what anyone says, you are still worthy of love and respect.
