It's been 20 years since Dwele released his debut album 'Subject' in May of 2003 .Epithet Music and ‪@JoelleBrown‬ decided to create something to commemorate that milestone as ‪@dwele24‬ has been a great influence and provided endless inspiration for both of their creative and musical journeys.

For this Ode To Dwe' I sampled some strings from Deviation String Quartet who had previously played along to A.N.G.E.L (https://vimeo.com/31254324) and built around it with a similar chord progression and abundance of Neo-Soul bounce. Joelle Brown then ran with it with the sultry A.N.G.E.Ls and created a verse out of a number of Dwele song titles (did you catch how many were referenced? Let us know in the comments).

Lyrics

A N G E L x2

I set you free as a bird
I was once your travelling girl
I tried to hold on, continuation
I couldn’t do without you (without you)
All you - ever needed - was a subject
And you said I was the truth
Poppa yo - You lied
I’m too fly (for this guy)
And I was hoping we could find a way
To have what we had again some day
Cos I think I love you
All you - ever needed - was a subject
And you said I was the truth
Maybe we can take it - one day at a time
Some kinda lie
It’s tainted - I need to - open my eyes
You want a world of women
I can’t count the ways (where is this going? I’m leaving)
Don’t call me
I know what your name is

A N G E L x4

He'll never know that he's reason that I wrote this rhyme
And I bet he'll never care,
But I'll go all out of my way
Just to deliver this rhyme, but he'll never know, oh oh oh
