Guangzhou holds a heartfelt significance in my life—a place I consider home, yet one I am not familiar with. It is where I find solace, where memories resonate deeply, where I can express myself to the fullest and where I am always surrounded by companionship with family. Despite its heat and humidity, the city always beckons me back with anticipation. Guangzhou—where it all began.

It has been 5 years since I last visited Guangzhou. During this time, my only connection to the city and its people was through video calls with my grandparents, hearing about the changes, the same, interesting gatherings … and bittersweet farewells. Yet, it all seemed surreal because my memory of the city remained frozen in time from five years ago. Part of me yearned for positive change, while a small part wished everything would remain the same. When I finally saw the city again after what felt like an eternity, it was both strange and familiar. Everyone looked the same, except for my grandparents, who had noticeably aged. I felt a rush of happiness mixed with the urge to hold back tears. It was strange being in a place I once called home, now feeling like a mere visitor. Despite these conflicting emotions, I was undeniably happy and excited to create new memories in this beautiful city I am proud to be a part of.
