It doesn't take long to get a quick sample of your popcorn ceiling and take to a lab. Please us a P100 respirator when doing this. Once you "scrape" ceiling asbestos (if present) is now airborne. One small exposure won't kill you but please do take precautions. Yes there are "at home" kits out there BUT peace of mind is priceless. I did research on this hoping to test myself but many people said they aren't 100% accurate. Look in your local area for a testing location. Mine was cheap ($20.00) for one day service and $40.00 for same day service. It was only about 20 minutes away. I called the next day and got results as they were emailing them to me. This was a 1984 home that we are going to be updating...popcorn has to go!
