The third part of my Siberian journey is about Oymyakon, the road of bones, a long wait for cars outside in freezing temperatures exceeding -50 celsius degrees, also about the fight against time, self-sufficiency, hunger, thirst or freezing electronics.

A 2l bottle of water freezes outside in minutes. Food stocks become moldy during constant freezing and thawing. I feel the frost on my feets after standing outside just after a minute.

Electronics only work for a very short time, some not at all. I had to shoot a lot of shots several times.
I take pictures with an electronic shutter. Mechanical got frozen already at -30°C. The moisture drawn by the frost from my eye fogs the viewfinder, I have the display tilted back to protect it from freezing and crack.
When I take a picture, I put the battery in a warm pocket.

I'm in a hurry even when I'm just standing and waiting. It makes me feel the cold every minute. However, the temperature after dark will be even lower.

It took me 3 days to get to Oymyakon in 3 cars. I spent the first night at the university school in Khandiga. The second in the Cuba motorway 200km from Oymyakon and the third in Tomtor, 30km from Ojmiakon.

In Ojmiakon I found accommodation in a cultural center, so I've stayed there for another 3 days to explore the area.
Oymyakon is basically such a typical quiet Russian village. Mostly wooden houses. The Internet only works from the Beeline operator.

The local people are very nice. Apart from the fact that thanks to them I had a place to sleep, we also played billiards together in the evening and in the morning they went looking for Yakut horses, which are the only ones that can live in such severe frosts.
