When you're building a dry well like this you want to make sure you're in permeable soil and you don't want to build your system like this in clay.

Also, you have to filter all the debris with a leaf filter and inline catch basin. You can't let your dry well fill up with sediment or it will clog and fail in no time. The key is to build the system correctly.
