Razor clams are one of the tastiest clams you can harvest in the Pacific Northwest. They are delicious and super easy to dig for. You just need a clam gun (or a shovel, or your hands if you're a beast) and a bag/container to put them in. You can get clam guns at pretty much any outdoors store (Sportco, Cabelas, Walmart even)...I prefer the aluminum ones with the vent holes because they're easier to use and hold up longer, but any of them will work.

We didn't get many opportunities this past season with an early closure due to domoic acid, but I'm super happy to be out on the beach again getting these tasty bites! (They also make spectacular crab bait if you find you can't eat your limit of 15 clams.)

We usually arrive 1 or 1.5 hours before low tide. If the clams are showing on their own, we might limit out in 20-30 minutes, but if they're not showing well (like today at this particular spot on the beach at least) then we use a very sophisticated stomping method to force them to show and still get our limits pretty quickly. Nom nom nom clammies!!!!!

Always check for biotoxin closures and current open harvest dates and locations (this is for Washington State): https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish...
