Today we walk you step by step through how to build your own goat milking stand or stanchion (sometimes called a head gate). This build is super fast and easy, and you can even use scrap wood, pallet boards, or random lumber pieces for most of it, making it super cheap too! Using some scraps we already had, this project cost us less than $50 to build a stand (and most of that was just the traction tape!).

☼Tools Needed:
Drill + drill bits to fit your screws and bolt
4” Tread tape – cut into 8 pieces 20” long (https://amzn.to/3vBCVg0)
3.5” bolt + nut
2.5” screws
4” hook and eye
Hanging feed dish (https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pro...)

☼Cut List:
2x 2x4 x 44” (frame)
2x 2x4 x 21” (frame)
2x 2x4 x 24” (supports)
2x 2x4 x 40” (head gate)
2x 4x4 x 14” (back legs)
2x 4x4 x 30” (front legs)
8x 5/4x6 (deck board) x 24”

☼Instructions:
1. Cut boards
2. Assemble frame – small boards sandwiched inside long
3. Attach back legs – inside frame
4. Flip over & attach front legs using level – in front of frame
5. Add horizontal supports for head gate
6. Temporarily place head gate boards to sketch out curve to cut out – one board with screws, one with bolt
7. Take off and cut both curves
8. Attach deck boards
9. (Optional) Add anti-slip tread tape
10. Once cut, reinstall head gate boards
11. Install hook and eye
12. Milk your goats!

Thanks for watching! We are a small farm in north Texas, raising critically endangered Meishan pigs and mini nubian goats. Our animals are pasture-raised and we pursue natural, regenerative farming practices. Our Meishans are AMBA registered, and we raise them for meat and breeding. Our mini nubian dairy goat herd is focused on creating productive milk goats that maintain good condition on pasture. Join us as we learn about farming, family, and faith!
